MONROVIA, CA - A Siberian Husky named Boone is a local hero after risking his life to protect his 14-year-old owner.

Boone and his owner, Daniel Whitman, were in the backyard of their Monrovia, California home when the five-year-old dog jumped between the unsuspecting boy and a...more coiled rattler.

"I was actually cleaning up after the dog and I heard him run to the corner of my eye," Daniel said. "I looked over and I saw the rattle of the rattlesnake start going off," said Whitman.

According to the Monrovia Patch, Whitman ran back inside at the sight of the snake and Boone followed soon thereafter. However, when Boone began acting peculiar minutes later, the Whitmans suspected something was wrong.

"There didn't appear to be anything physically wrong with him," Whitman's father told the Monrovia Patch. "He started to kind of twist his head funny and look up at the ceiling like he was in pain."

Tracy gets green light for solar power project

TRACY, CA (AP) - The city of Tracy will be allowed to purchase a 200-acre tract of land from the federal government to build a solar energy project after a bill passed giving the stalled deal the green light.

U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock, on Wednesday said the president approved...more the Tracy land conveyance bill, which waived use restrictions on the land.

The land on Schulte Road was conveyed previously to Tracy 14 years ago with the condition that it be used only for recreational or educational purposes.

Denham said the project will help create jobs in California's Central Valley, one of the most economically hard hit areas in the

nation.

Tracy Mayor Brent Ives said in a statement that the project could create up to 200 jobs.

Suspected gunman ID'd in Modesto park shooting

MODESTO, CA - The man Modesto police believe to be responsible for a shooting that set off a chain reaction of events at Robertson Road Park on May 9 was identified on Wednesday.

Tarango is a documented criminal street gang member and considered armed and dangerous, said Armendariz.

Tarango was listed as 5'8" tall, weighing 250 pounds. He is wanted for attempted murder and a gang enhancement. He also has an active no-bail warrant for his arrest, Armendariz said.

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - An 82-year-old West Sacramento woman missing since Tuesday afternoon was found safe on Wednesday around 10:45 a.m. 

Sgt. Nathan Steele said Georgina Crespo disappeared from her residence in the Southport area on May 15 around 4:35 p.m. Crespo went for a walk and...more when she did not return by 10:45 p.m., her family members contacted police.

Steele did not indicate where Crespo was found or where she had gone while reported missing.

Nutella Strawberry Smoothie

I love smoothies because they’re easy, fast, and so simple to customize with your favorite flavors. Last spring I posted chocolate raspberry smoothie and tropical green smoothie (spring is clearly the start of smoothie season for me). This year I’m feeling a little more decadent, plus...more I’m still going through my Costco supply of Nutella, so I knew I had to try it – Nutella in a smoothie!
I only put in one serving size of Nutella to keep it reasonable, so the smoothie is mostly yogurt and fruit. Strawberries and chocolate are a classic combination so I thought they would be a nice compliment to the Nutella flavor, which turned out to be true. I used frozen strawberries but now that’s it’s strawberry season, feel free to use fresh and add some ice if you need to make it colder or thicker.
Have fun with the recipe and play with it – it would be great with raspberries or other seasonal fruit. The smoothie is perfect with a dollop of COOL WHIP whipped topping for added

When we entered the very flowered courtyard of the Ryde Hotel (centrally located in downtown Ryde, California), a young man handed me a Yay flag.

Trivia Nugget — Ryde (population: 146) was named after a seaside town on the Isle of Wight.
The Ryde Hotel lies along the Sacramento River and is known for its wedding venue-ness. Coincidentally, we were there for a wedding.
