SACRAMENTO, CA - There are four weeks left of winter, but the spring-like temperatures have people noticing more mosquitos than in years past.

Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District officials say a year ago there were actually more mosquitos in the Sacramento area, but
...more because of the warmer, dryer weather people are spending more time outside this year and noticing the mosquitos.

Crews will be doing additional mosquito trapping, including Elk Grover and Wilton, which were hot spots for West Nile Virus last year.

According to Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District, the first bird of 2012, testing positive for West Nile virus, has been found, which is not unusual considering this winter's dry and warm weather.

The mosquito species that is out in the Sacramento area right now is typically a day-biter and likes to go inside, so keep windows and doors shut.

SACRAMENTO, CA - Hundreds of teachers and staff marched to Elk Grove Unifed School Cistrict building Tuesday night; as many as 2,000 people showed up to protest district budget cuts.

Many of the teachers went before school board members and sounded off against the proposed health
...more benefit cuts and pending layoffs. A lot of the teachers wore pink arm bands representing pink slips.

Tuesday night, school boardmembers approved criteria for handing out pink slips; 240 teachers and staff could be impacted when pink slips go out by March 15.

The district is also currently negotiating a cap on health care benefits. Among the proposed health costs, a single person could expect to pay $63.40 a month for care.

According to the district spokeswoman, right now, teachers don't have to pay anything for health care.

The district will continue to look into health care issue next month.

THRIFTING HOW-TO
SECONDHAND GLAM.
I seem to have a knack for this whole secondhand wardrobe thing, and can usually do an outfit for under $20. But dressing up for a fancy event just inherently costs more, right?

I was asked to be a part of the Hearts for the Arts charity event
...more that happened a few weeks ago, and was determined to #1: have something new & glam to wear, and #2: still not spend more than $20.
When it was all said & done, I walked out of Thrift Town with
a whole new (secondhand) outfit for under $17.
The faux fur had black satin ribbons on each end,
so I crossed it at the waist and tied the ribbons in the back.
The  layered vintage necklace was perfect for the retro look.
A dash of red lipstick, and I was ready to go!
This outfit total: $16.96
Perfect little black dress: $2.99
Faux fur: $3.99
Vintage necklace: $1.99
Gold/Creme heels: $7.99
Where do you thrift? What’s the best
