Ripon man accused of child molestation

RIPON, CA - A 64-year-old Ripon man was arrested Monday on suspicion of molesting a child.

The alleged crime occurred on the 100 block of Robert Avenue.

1st Sgt. Steve Merchant said the Ripon Police Department was informed at approximately 8 Monday morning of the alleged...more assault.

After interviewing the child and parent, officers arrested and booked Ronald Glenn Bristow into San Joaquin County Jail on felony lewd and lascivious act upon a child under age 14 and misdemeanor sexual battery.

Merchant did not say when or where the alleged violation was committed.

RIPON, CA - A powered parachute for aerial patrols over Ripon and the Stanislaus River, the Ripon Police Department says.

Police are launching the aircraft in response to an increase in daytime burglaries and thefts, said 1st Sgt. Steve Merchant. In addition, the craft will fly over...more parks along the Stanislaus River for the safety of those using the river.

The powered parachute can reach an altitude of 10,000 feet and is economical to operate, Merchant said..

The police department's aviation unit, in place since 2009, has been deployed previously to aid in river rescues, suspect captures and missing person searches.

Child porn suspect caught in the act, say Ripon police

RIPON, CA - Ripon police detectives report when they served a search warrant at a child pornography suspect's apartment Friday morning, multiple images of child porn were sitting right on his computer monitor.

Arrested and booked into custody on suspicion of possession of child...more pornography was Robert James Poeschl, 44.

Detectives began their investigation into Poeschl on Tuesday after being alerted by the Sacramento Valley High Tech Crimes Task Force that child pornographic images had been accessed and downloaded in Ripon, said 1st Sgt. Steve Merchant.

Investigators linked the information to Poeschl, Merchant said, and obtained a search warrant which they executed on the 100 block of E. Frontage Road at 7:45 a.m. Friday.

This parenting gig is HARD sometimes! Oh who am I kidding? It’s hard pretty much all of the time. My apologies to the new parents just starting out but that is a fact.
Still I have this air of confidence, of I can totally do this because I am a pro. I mean I DO have three adult...more children now, two of whom are independent, not living at home, paying their own rent, saving money, planning vacations and buying insurance kind of grown-ups. I’ve got this down…or at least I should. At least I think so…I thought so…
So when faced with the latest crisis of bad behavior I take it on as a teachable moment… because I have dealt with this before… because I am a veteran parent. This will be easy and solved in the time span of a popular 30 minute sitcom.
Um, yeah.
No it won’t.

North Korea threatened to launch another missile in a provocative move recently and the United Nations Security Council does nothing. No sanctions, no action. The world wants the U.S. to be the world cops, but will not provide through the U.N. the political muscle or a...more united front to send a clear message to rogue states like North Korea and Iran they must not threaten other nations.

With the recent tragedy in Afghanistan where one and or a few US soldiers committed murder of women and children we are reminded of the My Lai incident in Vietnam.

On March 16, 1968, during the Vietnam War United States troops under the command of Lt. William L. Calley Jr. carried out a massacre of about 108 unarmed men, women and children in the village of My Lai. The C Company, also known as the “Charlie Company,” of the 11th Brigade, Americal Division, was ordered to My Lai to eliminate the Vietcong’s 48th Battalion.

Weekly Challenge #12: Appreciate your Body (aka Positive Self-Talk)

     In earlier challenges, we focused on being grateful and positive instead of negative and complaining. The whole purpose of those challenges was to realize that what you say and think make a difference in how you act and feel. Whatever you focus on is what you feed, and what you feed...more grows. If all you think about is what you don't have, your dissatisfaction grows; if most of what you say comes out as a complaint, you forget to see the positive.

This week's challenge builds on that idea.

How many times in a day do you engage in negative self-talk about your BODY? I know I do it ALL.THE.TIME. "I can't wear those, my thighs are too fat." "I hate my arms." "My back is killing me." "I'm just not strong enough." Honestly, I've probably said each of these things to myself, in my head, just in the last 3 hours.

But what about the GOOD things about my body and all of the amazingly positive and wonderful things it has done for me? My legs are strong and get

What To Do When Family Memembers Are Mean

Last week I read a few posts about dealing with family members who were rude, hurtful, and gossipy.

It’s all too common, and makes me think of a letter I recently wrote to myself:

Dear Me,
This week was rough. People said unkind things to me and to those I...more love. I wanted to yell and say unkind things right back at them. But I didn’t. I wanted to lash out and confront them. But I didn’t. 



I’m confused. 



Am I letting myself down when I don’t react to their nasty comments? Would I be seen as a bully if I said out loud what I was thinking inside? Am I weak when I say nothing and let others get away with saying hurtful things?
