Eyelashes are in.  You knew that didn’t you?  You could tell because there isn’t a female appearing on TV that isn’t sporting mega-eyelashes.  I liked the look, maybe because it took me back to the days when slapping on a pair of false eyelashes was as natural as putting on mascara.  That was back in [...]

SACRAMENTO - A crackdown on unlicensed car dealers leads to 139 arrests across the state on Saturday.

The daylong sting targeted unlicensed car dealers who prey on disadvantaged buyers by pretending to be a private seller.

Undercover officers issued 139 citations on
...more Saturday.

Unlicensed car dealers, called "Curbstoners" are known to purchase low-end vehicles from private parties and salvage auction yards and usually do little, if any, mechanical or safety reconditioning.

Curbstoners can face several thousand dollars in fines and fees for each confiscated vehicle.

"The Department of Motor Vehicles has zero tolerance for these unscrupulous, illegal dealers and hopefully this statewide enforcement action sends a strong message to these individuals. By towing and issuing citations, we hope to prevent them from putting dangerous vehicles onto California roads," said DMV Director George Valverde.

As we anticipate a hot summer, now is the time to think about ways to keep your house cool and cheerful. It can work to your advantage to think about how color affects the temperature of a room. Light colors will evoke a refreshing feel, whereas dark colors can exhibit warmth and
...more weight.
One great inexpensive decorating style is to keep the main walls in your house white or off-white and decorate with bright “summery” colors or with two complementary or contrasting colors such as tangerine and teal, or violet and yellow. This technique is great for keeping a room light and simple, but also modern and personalized. One of the most uplifting color combinations is yellow and turquoise. These two colors together create a fun and “beachy” atmosphere.
A few different ways you can use accent colors in a room is to:......

Oh, how I love Pinterest. It’s such a fun source for inspiration and new ideas. Someone pinned a cupcake bouquet and I knew right away that I had to create one myself. I couldn’t find any good guides on making them, so I put together a step by step photo tutorial for you so you can make one
...more too. It’s really not that hard – pipe roses onto cupcakes (there’s an animated gif below to show you how), put them on some toothpicks into a styrofoam ball. Done!
I think a cupcake bouquet would be a lovely gift for Mother’s Day, which is coming up in two weeks. It would work for so many other occasions too – bridal showers, baby showers, birthdays, as a get well gift, or just as a pick-me-up for a friend who needs a smile (and tasty treat). This is the first one I’ve made and I love how it turned out, except I want to experiment with the fake leaves – I used tissue paper but I’m wondering if I can use real leaves somehow. I will try that out next....

TURLOCK, CA - The man with the Guinness World Record for living the longest with a bullet lodged in the head, died peacefully on Monday.

William Lawlis Pace was 103 years old and had lived 94 years and six months of his life with a bullet, broken into two pieces stuck in the back of
...more his head.

The start of Pace's quirky record holding was on a remote North Texas farm, outside of Wheeler, in October of 1917. An 8-year-old Pace was accidentally shot by his older brother.

"As kids, playing cops and robbers with real guns, is how he accidentally got shot," Pace's son Bill Pace said.

Remarkably, little Lawlis Pace was not only alive, but didn't want to even see a doctor. The Pace Family still took the week-long trip to Dallas to see a specialist.

"The way he told the story was saying, 'Why do this? I'm not bleeding! Why worry?' So, he didn't' feel going to Dallas was important," said Pace, who never knew his father without that bullet.

You know that old saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away?" Turns out it might be more true than you thought!

Apples are the perfect snack food. They are crunchy, sweet (but not too sweet) and delicious and also chock full of nutrition. Apples are low on the glycemic index which
...more helps stabilize your blood sugar. They are also high in fiber which is not only good for your digestive system, but also helps you feel satisfied. As an extra bonus, apples don't need to be refrigerated and come in their own "wrapping" making them the epitome of a "grab and go" snack....

Many homeowners here in Central Valley have beautiful outdoor decks. Understandably, with the heat of summer months approaching, homeowners want to protect their decks. While the natural aging of wood products from UV rays and heat cannot be completely prevented, the aging process can be significantly slowed with proper care and attention to all exterior woodwork.
